Lightfoot & Wolfville

Lightfoot & Wolfville is a certified organic and biodynamic farm winery located in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia on Canada’s Atlantic coast, nestled between the town of Wolfville and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Grand Pré. The name of the winery – “Lightfoot & Wolfville” – represents the connection of people and place. Lightfoot being the family surname and Wolfville being the name of the town, a relationship that is at the heart of everything we do. While our journey in wine growing first began in 2009 with the initial planting of grapevines, our family’s farming roots go back eight generations in the Annapolis Valley – four generations on our current home farm where the winery sits today.

Our focus is on low-intervention, cool-climate wines that speak of their origin, including traditional method sparkling, aromatic whites, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir Riesling, and other German-styled whites suited for the microclimate. Situated in close proximity to the Minas Basin and the world’s highest tides, cool breezes and excellent temperature moderation help create wines with great distinction. The commitment to regenerative agriculture practices is driven by a duty to protect and promote the vitality of the soils for future generations, and has led to organic certification through Ecocert and biodynamic certification by Demeter.

100% Chardonnay

Ageing 46 months on lees
Dosage 8 grams/litre

Organic and biodynamically farmed. Fermented in stainless steel with full MLF, aged in bottle for 46 months on lees. Disgorgement in spring 2024 with a dosage of 8 g/L. Crisp lemon, red and green apple stream across a stony base and a cloud of lees, emerging with lingering meringue and saline citrus pith. Showing nice evolution, and would be a suitable sparkler for richer canapés.

70% Pinot Noir, 30% Pinot Meunier

Ageing 11 months on lees
Dosage 6 grams/litre

Pinot noir and pinot meunier mostly whole cluster pressed, with a small part spending under 1 hour on skins, giving the delicate salmon hue. Fermented in stainless, with full MLF and 11 months on lees. Disgorged in March 2023 with 6 g/L. Wild raspberries, light strawberry threaded with mandarin peel and kissed with wild mint as it streams down the stony palate, finishing with a bitter orange twist. Great freshness and purity of fruit throughout, this is certainly built for food.

2021 aNCIENNe CHARDONNAY

SKU +222579 | Stocked SPEC | $36.99 WHSL | 6 x 750ml | Certified Organic & Biodynamic

Ageing 20 months

A blend of 3 Dijon clones from our organic and biodynamic Home Farm Vineyard. Whole cluster pressed, and native fermented with full MLF. Aged for 20 months in neutral French barriques (25% new). Quite creamy and polished up front, with a riveting underlay of buzzy stones that light up the palate and tighten up the whole. Ripe green apple, perfumed lemon, French cream, fresh hazelnuts roll across the leesy palate, finishing on that lingering salinity. Quite singular, and worth seeking out.
